RKDB sees video as a modern-day shamanic tool. He actively uses the ritual potential of the medium in order to approach and enter the realm of the subconscious. Trained originally at Carnegie-Mellon University as a performer, for the past decade he has steeped himself in the study of religion and mythology in an effort to understand the dreams and visions he has had since he was child. His life changed when he read Mircea Eliade’s seminal work on shamanism and he realized that in another culture and another time he might have trained as a shaman. But in the here and now, where artists take on the seer’s role, RKDB recognized video as an alchemical medium perfectly suited to the magic visualizations and performative nature of shamanic practice.
