Ryan Chard Smith was born and raised in Cozad, Nebraska, a small farming community that lies on the sparse stretch of I-80 between Wyoming and Iowa. He briefly studied photography at the University of Nebraska before moving to Oakland, California in 2003. His photos depict family, friends, and places to which the loneliness of devotion is evident and through which the exploration of self is made possible. Smith's work has appeared in Zzyzzyva Magazine, Moholy Ground Magazine, and he has had two exhibitions at Krowswork. |
